Kat’s Closet- TIFF 2012

And on continues just another manic Monday. It’s been a whirlwind month, ticking off days towards another change of pace. Sipping multiple coffees and squeezing in some final late nights before the transition into another basketball season starts.

TIFF is one of my favourite times in the city. Busy streets and restaurants, beautiful people from around the world and the magic of the movies.

I hit the scene in a pretty simple palate. When the weather starts getting a bit chillier I always tend to grab the black, white and greys. I’m not sure what it is. Maybe just a refreshing something new after a summer of brights. Here are three looks from my week. I doubled up on some pieces but that’s the beauty of finding some real good staples; the mix and match game. And happy new week to you. Make it awesome. -k

Kat’s Closet – Work Mode

These are my favourite days. It doesn’t matter if I had a sleepless night due to my brain spinning creative mumble jumble of the next days events or uncontrollable factors that punch you in the gut when you’re not looking. This is exactly how it was, actually. (Hense the quiet week on the blog.) And as I sat backstage anticipating show number two, mic’d up, graffiti enhanced script in hand, holding the third coffee of the day, throwing myself into a new challenge; this was perfect.

I really believe the truth within comes out in what you wear. Out of every sleeve/button/cuff/seam in your closet you put this on today for a reason. So this was my professional look with a Kat twist.

It’s a new week. Make it awesome. -k

Kat’s Closet- Girly Grunge.

What a wonderful weekend whirlwind! I hope everyone did the last long weekend of the summer proud. I spent most of mine in a bathing suit + ray bans or some torn denim + tank jam sitting poolside in the city spin or rooftop getting some BBQ in.
So when we moved the crew to hipster-esque Ossington, I threw together this quick lookie and sailed west. I adore mixing unexpected pieces. A little edgy to cover the pretty with barely there accessories. Just my go-to arm candy that I was already wearing. Shoes can change an outfit dramatically. Tomboy chic and girly grunge. -k

Dress- Kitson
Plaid Shirt- Gloss

Kat’s Closet – Layer Love.

Summer days are turning into hazy goodbyes. I can tell by the late night layers needed this past week. Fall is my favourite dressing season so it’s a bittersweet goodbye. Mix and matching heavy and bare necessities. Hugged by sweaters and scarves yet skimpy stilettos holding you up. A party dress and a toque as the final touch. Army green and ripped jeans. Denim daze head to toe.

This was a taste of just that this past week. And then we all danced like no one was watching under a shiny disco ball.

Kat’s Closet – Weekend Edition.

How the heck is Monday here already? How the heck is September a couple of days away? How the heck was your weekend?

A little work and a little play was the salad tossed. A lot of dancing and a lot of living was the meal of choice.

After ‘that’s a wrap’ was yelled on set, Friday brought all of my favourite people into one place. My brother and his band The Lad Classic took the stage at Cherry Cola’s. My roomie and I woke up the next day with the words ‘well, that was an unexpected good, good night!’ Alot of black, skinny jeans, vintage band tees, cons, bangles, military boots and jackets, tattoos and hipster dudes. A whole lot of Queen West.

Tank- Boutique on Melrose Ave. LA.
Pants- H&M (Pleather capped knees)
Hat- Big It Up

Shoes- Aldo (Living in these this summer)
Lipstick- Costa Chic- MAC

After ‘that’s a wrap’ was yelled on set, Saturday brought my roomie and I home for a major pillow crash as the week caught up to us. With hair and make-up done from a burlesque inspired shoot that afternoon, we ventured to a happy house-warming evening. A backyard in the city is a rare find. But a grand one. An evening under the stars. I’m ready for a week of the same. -k

Kat’s Closet – Flats and Hats.

Spontaneity. A favourite word and action of mine. The unexpected next day race or chase. The familiarity of something unfamiliar. Throwing a dart at a map. A different daily dance. Living in the moment and doing what you want to do. Right there. Right when the clock strikes now.

This week has been a blur of all of the things I love in regards to work. From the TV studio to social media hangouts, a self made rehearsal space and a warehouse set in dusty dance shoes. I can’t really imagine it any other way. I’m tired and my feet hurt and I would have loved to successfully find the treasure chest with the key that unlocks a few more hours to each 24 hour day. I didn’t want to be greedy so flats and hats were the go-to to speed up the time clock.

I snuck out for a little balance after my eyes started blurring words on the computer screen into run on sentences and sat with good people on a patio on College Street. Balance is my other favourite word. It’s so important. So balance it was! A la flats and hats. -k
Dress- H&M
Boots- Steve Madden
Hat- The Muskoka Store

Kat’s Closet – Nude and Neon.

I spent the day at the TV studio. One of my favourite places. Dressing for camera is a task on it’s own. I like to keep it simple. Insert nude dress courtesy of the roommate. It’s actually quite wonderful having two closets to choose from. I grew up with a younger sister and we shared options all our lives. Simple is also a little out of my comfort zone. Insert neon touches. Belt, two tone nails, lipstick and kitty kat shoes. And these sunglasses were my favourite. I speak in past tense because this was our last walk together. And then they croaked. -k

Dress- Mexx
Belt- Gap
Shoes- Steve Madden
Lipstick- “Lady Danger” MAC

Kat’s Closet – The Teal Deal.

I like doing things opposite of what the rest of the world is doing at that time. And I guess my driving course through life allows me to do just that. So, on a Wednesday morning I conquered the errands, shmerrands list. Checkmark.

Boogied through the city in my teal jeans which have been a go-to this summer. And my sling-back geeky shoes. I’ve got mixed reactions to them but they’re worn in from city commuting to movie nights to pairing them with sweatpants in the cottage air. I believe in wearing whatever YOU love. Don’t worry about the top trends list. A friend posted the following quote on twitter that I just adore:

“Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say and not giving a damn.” -Gore Vidal

The real deal. -k

Shoes- G.H Bass & Co.

Kat’s Closet – Manic Monday Mode

Happy Monday, campers!

Late nights and early mornings seem to be the theme of my summer daze. Last night a text rang “Let’s go to the movies” and I said okay. I ended up at the theatre to see “The Campaign”. All I have to say is 1. Will Ferrell is definitely back on his game and 2. The dinner table scene. … From there it was an evening of good company and conversation that travelled from Ossington to College to watching the sky light up on my balcony. Chatty Kathy.

When your latest nights are your greatest nights the pillow tends to hold onto you for a wee bit longer. So when I don’t have a lot of time to put myself together I always choose one colour and dress it head to toe. Today it was white. And a messy bun. And kicks to motor around the city. And bright lips to distract from the well earned circles under my eyes. -k

Kat’s Closet – Headscarf and Heels

When I let the cat out of the bag about this blog journey, many people splashed out the, “You’re going to post your outfits, right?”. So, welcome to Kat’s Closet. One of my ‘moment to myself’ weaknesses is getting caught up in fashion blogs online. So let’s see if I’ve absorbed anything from my surfing…

The headscarf has been my go-to this summer. Dressed up, dressed down, beach hair, gym hair, need to go out and no time to do your hair; it works for all of the above.

Last night it was a little Burrrronto in the city! But I have to admit, the next season is my favourite when it comes to dressing your own mannequin. I headed to the village for a beer with some good, good people who I hadn’t seen in a minute. I’m all about mixing dressed up/dressed down pieces. -k

Sweater- Zara
Shorts- Joe Fresh that I sliced up myself because I wasn’t wearing them and voila!
Shoes- Aldo
Headscarf- American Apparel
Lipstick- ‘Lady Danger’ MAC – it’s my absolute favourite!
